Captain Junius Tiberius of the Ultramarines 4th Company

Finally i am done the first model of my army...Behold; Captian Junius Tiberius, Master of the Fleet and Captain of the 4th Company, the aptly named "Defenders of Ultramar". I have spent several hours of work and the photograph doesn't do it justice (note to self... buy a new camera!) Here is how i panted him:

Armour: I primed black and I started on the armour basecoat of Mordian Blue (foundation paint), I but several watered down layers on all the "blue parts". Then i applied Ultramarine Blue over the base coat, after which i started on the face...i didn't want to highlight anything quite yet.

Face:The Face was pretty straight forward and came out very well. Scorched Brown Base coat, followed by Tanned Flesh secondary base coat. Next, I had a mix of Tanned Flesh and Dwarf Flesh, and applied it too the raised areas. Then i took watered down Tallarn Flesh and applied it to the raised areas again. (I left the scar alone!). A decided that i wanted the under parts to stand out so i applied a Liche Purple wash to the jaw area. For the Scar and the jaw I mixed some Blood Red (20%), Liche Purple (30%) and Tallarn Flesh (50%) this came out fairly well.

Cloth and Seals: This was my absolutely favorite part! Scorched Brown base coat followed by a 1:1 mix of Scorched Brown and Graveyard Earth (over several watered down layers). Then I applied Desert Yellow (i mixed it with Graveyard Earth and played around for a few layers). The next part was a gradual layering of Desert Yellow and Kommando Khaki until it was pure Khaki. Then I preformed the same layering with Khaki and Bleached Bone. I used Mechrite Red for the seals themselves.

Cape: I cried... well almost, The longest and most tedious matter at hand. I wasn't going to let this part 'brush' me aside. Well this might not seem like much but what i did was a mix of Blood Red and Skull White (1:4) and watered it down and just went at it for a base coat. Gradually i was able to get a pure Blood Red, but the fun didn't stop there, I Highlighted all the folds with Macharius Solar Orange and blood red (1:3) (what a name). I was really happy with the results but if i didn't have to paint red again it would be too soon.

Hair: Scorched Brown base coat followed by a Iyanden Dark Sun and Bestial Brown (1:3) finish.

Gems: Blood Red with Gemmy highlights.

Gold: I use a Game Color Gold mixed with Bestial Brown, then i Ink it with Brown ink then i take the gold, pure gold, and i do some touch ups. Inking again if i have to.

Metal: Boltgun Metal base coat and a Chainmail finish.

Trim: easy, Knarloc Green that's it. now beat it.

FLUFF: The year was M41.999 when Uriel Ventress was exiled from the chapter and he went on his Daemon-bound adventure. Enter Junius Tiberius; descendant of Lord Admiral Lazlo Tiberius, and a Sargent of a 4th company Tactical squad. Junius caught the eye of both Cato Sicarius and Marnius Calgar on Medusa V and the Tau-Occupied Durance. Now armed with a Powersword, Bolter, and the 4th company, Tiberius protects the Segmentum Ultra from alien and heretic alike.

Ultramarines 500pts Painting PART 1

-So here is my 500pts of my Ultramarines.
As you can see i got the battle for black reach models and a couple of spare space marine models from a normal box...i diddnt want all my marines to be static, i have to say that the terminators are awesome, I actually drilled barrel holes in the storm bolters. I am very happy with the captain, the traditional ultramarine banner makes the overall army looks "Ultratastic"

I have decided to paint the marines with 4th company markings, meaning the shoulder pad trim will be painted green (probably Knarloc green). I have always been a big fan of man power and this strike force really shows it...I am really hoping for decisive shock effect hopefully catching my opponent of guard.

Painting on the marines will begin shortly!

Courage and Honour

Since I started Warhammer 40k at the age of 11, the Ultramarines have always been my favorite Space Marine chapter. Once i heard that we would be working on this blog I decided take a new look at the army that i started 8 years ago.
I looked inside my bits box when I heard I was going to start work on a new army. I pulled out a sloppily painted, poorly primed Ultramarine and thought to myself Every Local Gaming Store (LGS) needs an Ultramaines player (yes i think in coloured bubbles like Deadpool)

Game Thug told us that we would be putting together a 2000 point army based on 500pt increments. As I am a huge supporter of THEMED ARMIES, I decided that this Ultramarines army is going to be under the complete sway of the Codex Astartes, the holy manuscript laid down by the Ultramarine Primarch Roboute Guilliman. (ENGLISH: Cheese free and full of Fluff...did i mention the fluff?)

So I hit the shelves of my LGS, luckily for my wallet, I didn't leave much to the imagination for the first round of shopping;

1 Assault on Black Reach Box set
1 Drop pod (couldn't resist)

I split the AoBR box with an ork player at the store and went home with my goodies. I built them all up and i put a 500 point list together. This list is actually a Homage to a battle report that use to come with the W40K 3rd Edition Starter kit, (yes i still have it somewhere) which was my first box of marines!

HQ
Captain Tiberius
w/power weapon, (115pts)

Elites
5-strong Terminator Squad "Gadius" (200pts)

Troops
8-strong Space Marine Tactical squad "Honour" w/flamer (138pts)

Drop pod w/ Locator Beacon (45pts)

498 pts

I wanted to play off the W.Y.S.I.W.Y.G. as much as possible, so even though the drop pod can fit 12 models, there is no way thats possible (even with the new mold) so i decided that the captains and his banner uses up the spot for 2 marines in the pod. It has nothing to do with the fact that i would have gone over in points... no...that can't be it

Why a tale of four gamers?

Background:

Years ago, and apparently recently, Games Workshop published a series of articles in the White Dwarf charting the progress of 4 gamers and the armies they built. Each was allowed to spend X amount of money per month, stated what they bought, and committed to building and painting it by the deadline.

The Goal:
To build and paint 2000 points.

The Participants:
FatherTork - White Scars
Hunter Corhath - Ultramarines
Game Thug - Night Lords
UN17 - Tau

The Rules:
There are no buying requirements this time; all of us have more than enough stuff, so we're going with straight out points requirements.

We'll set a deadline and a points amount, and all work towards that. We'll play games as we get stuff painted. The WD guys ruled that if it was not painted on game day, it didn't get used, and I think that's a good idea.

I suggest 1 January as the first deadline for 500 points. This is not primarily competitive; cooperative paint nights are encouraged.
